|3D Masters is an international 3D radio-controlled helicopter competition. The competition is held over three days during July in Northampton, England.
3D Masters is a showcase of the best 3D helicopter pilots from around the world.
The competition is held during July in or about Northampton, England. Visitors from the rest of the World are welcome. Pilots, Sponsors and Spectators stay in accommodation at the 3D Masters site and make a weekend from the event. It gives an opportunity socialise and share ideas with other like-minded people. Evening events are held for this reason.
There are three levels:
The Sportsman Level is entered in by pilots who have not been in 3D competition previously, and just want to enjoy a weekend among their comrades.
Sportsman Pilots are not sponsored, and the total 'k' (the difficulty of the manuver cannot exceed 10.
The Expert Level generally is entered by individuals who may or may not be sponsored, and who wish to compete at a higher level than in the Sportsman. Experts represent the best fliers from their respective countries.
Masters Pilots are well established, sponsored and well know International Pilots.
To compete at this level, a valid candidate must be invited and known due to previous achievements in the lower two levels.
3D Masters is known to provide participants intense competition and a large, appreciatative audience.
Six Internationally-recognised 3D pilots judge the event.
The competition testing format comprises three separate disciplines, each assessed individually:
Here, each pilot chooses a number of manoeuvres from a pre-published set of moves. Once the manoeuvres have been chosen and entered, they may not be altered. The pilot must concentrate on perfecting those manoeuvres for the competition. The Set Manoeuvres change from year to year, and carry varying levels of difficulty, or 'k' factors.
In freestyle, pilots must show the audience and the judges their capability in a totally free format. They may simply show their ability to restore control to a helicopter flalling, or consider and rehearse a sequence of their best manoeuvres.
Props and pyrotechnics are allowed to be used in the performance to futher highlight the spectacle.
Flight to Music
Here, pilots must produce a sequence to a piece of music.
